This collaboration promises to be an atmospheric and moving musical experience, where rich jazz sounds merge with the fragile intensity of Naima's voice.

With ‘Saudade’, Brussels Jazz Orchestra and Naima Joris seek the beauty of melancholy where an upbeat song is inevitably infused with the deep blues of Naima's voice. Together with the balanced power and musical ingenuity of Brussels Jazz Orchestra, the singer undertakes an atmospheric journey through the repertoire of Amália Rodrigues, Leonard Bernstein, Cesária Évora, Abbey Lincoln and Stromae, among others.

Although ‘Saudade’ is usually translated as an emotional mix of loss, lack and love, the concept is approached by BJO and Naima Joris with a vibrant musical energy.

About Naima Joris

Naima Joris started making music at 27, with no stage ambition, but grew into a distinctive voice on the Belgian music scene. Through detours as a background singer with Isbells and a lead session with Raymond van het Groenewoud, she found her own voice when her father, jazz musician Chris Joris, pulled her onto the stage in 2016. During the lockdown, a cover of Sodade on Facebook struck a chord, signalling her breakthrough. Her fragile, lived-in voice earned her a collaboration with Brussels Jazz Orchestra and resulted in her first EP in 2021, followed by a tribute to Daniel Johnston in 2022.
