retro-futuristische Turkse psychedelica

This top Istanbul artist already has four full-length albums out and has built an audience of hundreds of thousands since her 2014 debut. On her latest 2022 album "Anadolu Ejderi" (Anatolian Dragon), she takes her irresistibly retro-futuristic Turkish psychedelia to a new, more personal level.

During the pandemic, Gaye Sun Akyol was forced to take a break from touring and wrote more than 100(!) songs. From this she purveyed an irresistible album that combines "classic" Turkish psych melodies with Anatolian folk, pop, African and Middle Eastern sounds, soul, disco and rock. The result is extremely catchy and further highlights her unique voice. The album breathes fire, takes artistic risks and symbolizes the awakening of a mythological dragon as resistance to pure evil.

Akyol's writing is heavily influenced by the country's history and current challenges. She paints a poignant picture of political and economic problems and calls for collective action. "Anadolu Ejderi" represents Akyol's most liberating and authentic production to date, fusing diverse genres and musical influences into an exciting, unique and compelling adventure.

Support: Turkish Kebap

Influenced by the Turkish psychedelic folk rock of the 1970s, as well as the sounds of today, Turkish Kebap is a subtle blend of rhythms and melodies. The five-piece led by Dilan Oszu from Kurdistan isn't called the Brussels Altin Gün for nothing.

DJ Kokonuts!

Global Sounds Nuttiness! Because humor is never far away in the DJ sets of these 2 gentlemen: expect an infectious mix of African rhythms, Latin-American grooves, Middle Eastern sounds, tropical global beats, Asian oddities and sultry dancehall. Strictly vinyl of course.
