Genetic variation in seeds is crucial in an agro-ecological food system. We focus on robust potato and vegetable varieties. What is understood by a "robust variety," and who is already working on it? What perspectives does this broad view of breeding offer? How do current policy choices undermine autonomy for farmers and seed breeders? And what are the consequences of the EU proposal on the deregulation of New Genomic Techniques (NGTs) and the proposal on European seed legislation for both diversity and our view on sustainability.
