ABOUT THE PROJECT

In her abstract video ‘Parallel Spheres’ (2017), Brussels-based Venezuelan filmmaker Gabriela González Rondon depicts the physical properties of an alien and timeless environment; a world without boundaries in which shapes endlessly morph into one another. In ‘Figures in Mynd’ (2019) the abstractness of Rondon's images reaches another level of non-representational engagement. Instead of landscapes, it displays incessantly mutating fluid contours, which makes for a primal viewing experience.

Following Gabriela González Rondon's request to collaborate on this project, Moss became mesmerized by these two works. Finding ways to connect to the energy of her visual style, Moss watched ‘Parallel Spheres’ and ‘Figures In Mynd’ repeatedly until he started seeing the outlines depicted in them within his own reality. The musician then translated these shapes sonically, resulting in the music that is contained on this record, its organic and intuitive approach recalling the filmmaker’s creative process.

Even though their work draws on distinct socio-cultural realms, Gabriela González Rondon and Jamal Moss share a relentless DIY philosophy. This work ethic is manifested in raw unfiltered imagery and sound that finds no equal in today's oversaturated, overproduced and overpolished mediascape. Their joint creation results in highly engaging, indefinite movements forward that diffuse our experience of audio-visual time and space.
