Amnesty International Leerstoel

Ghent University is awarding the Amnesty International Chair to Joe Cannataci in 2024 for his pioneering work in the approach on the right to privacy as a personality right, together with the right to freedom of expression and the right to access information. This approach is more topical today than ever.

In 2015, Joe Cannataci was appointed the first-ever UN rapporteur on the right to privacy in the wake of Edward Snowden's revelations about mass surveillance. In 2018, this mandate was extended until 2021.
