Grand finale of the season: 24 hours long,
100 x 1 scene

Natali Broods performs the impossible in this epic endurance work: a single scene, repeated 100 times with 100 different people who identify as male* over 24 hours. No rehearsals. No safety net. Each encounter unfolds differently, revealing fragility, power and desire. Fiction and reality blur and pull you into a hypnotic rhythm.

The Second Woman is a 24-hour performance conceived by Nat Randall and Anna Breckon, which was first staged in 2016. An actress repeats a scene loosely based on John Cassavetes’ Opening Night one hundred times. The film Opening Night (1977) is about a play entitled The Second Woman. The dialogue for Randall and Breckon’s The Second Woman is largely drawn from Cassavetes’ film.

A once-in-a-lifetime experience that will be raw, intimate and unforgettable.

Each encounter lasts about 10 minutes, and every single time, an intense, intimate ritual unfolds. Through the repetition of the exact same arc, you begin to see the subtle changes, the minor nuances, and the emotions shifting from scene to scene. Fiction and reality blur into one another, drawing you into an addictive and hypnotic rhythm.

You are free to come and go as you please, but do not miss the finale: a magnificent release following the crescendo of 100 encounters, 100 choices, and 24 hours of intensity. This is the once-in-a-lifetime experience with which we close the season. A tribute to acting, to humanity, and to the power of duration and repetition. This concept has garnered massive international success, featuring star actresses such as Georgina Verbaan in the Netherlands, Ruth Wilson in the United Kingdom, and Pia Hierzegger during the Wiener Festwochen.

Let yourself be carried away, share the ecstasy, feel the vulnerability of a pure human encounter, and experience how a single scene can open up an entire world.

TICKETS

If you want the full package, buy a 24-hour ticket. This allows you to come and go as you please. Alternatively, you can join in from a specific time: from 9 pm, 2 am or 9 am. With any ticket, you can stay until the end. If you want to be there from the start, the 24-hour ticket is your only option.  And don’t worry, with every ticket you can enter and leave the venue as often as you like – except for with the one off door tickets. You’ll find more details about ticketing at the bottom of this page.

REVIEWS

Guardian - ★★★★★ Stunning endurance theatre takes aim at patriarchy

The Arts Review — "Mesmerising, compelling, endlessly watchable, funny, silly, tragic, in-control, lost. What a part. What a gift."

Time Out — "An almost heroic figure: stoically enduring the male gaze while forging and reforging the so-called 'second sex' into an indomitable being."
