What happens when art is once again given a full and proper place within vocational and technical education? With SLOOP DE MUREN (TEAR DOWN THE WALLS), Jong Gewei and HTISA (Hoger Technisch Instituut Sint-Antonius) seek an answer to that question for the third year in a row. During an intensive journey, students from the 'B-stroom' (pre-vocational track) explored their own voices and forms of expression through theater workshops.
This year, their worldview takes center stage. In small groups, we visited places that hold personal meaning for them. These walks sparked conversations about what occupies their minds, what scares them, what makes them angry, or what gives them hope. From these encounters grew a shared dreamworld full of desires, fears, and expectations for the future. But how do you tell the difference between a dream and a nightmare? And when do you choose to face reality?
On Friday, June 5th, these young people will share the outcome of their journey during a public showcase at VIERNULVIER. Do not expect a traditional performance, but rather a vibrant collection of dreams for the future, brought to life by youth who are often granted too little artistic space within the current education system.
