De Eurovisie van Jan Delvaux en DJ Bobby Ewing

The Eurovision Song Contest is the World Cup of pop music. Complete with fuss, tension, rumors, and snacks. [cite: 10] And with 10 million supporting Belgians who all know much better… [cite: 11]

The Eurovision Song Contest is also a matter of state importance. Because our participation is paid for with our tax money. [cite: 12] So politicians dare to interfere as well. Parliamentary questions and all. [cite: 13]

The Eurovision Song Contest is hotter than ever. Simultaneously cult and ultra-popular. [cite: 14] As a finalist, you can even perform at Rock Werchter or Pukkelpop these days. [cite: 15] Until recently, that was unthinkable. [cite: 16]

Time for an ode to the phenomenon. Belpop Bonanza presents a special about the Belgians and the Eurovision Song Contest. [cite: 17] By the way, VRT is at the helm again in 2027. So it's ideal. And of course, we are going to win again! [cite: 18]

A lot has already been said about the festival, of course. There are even thick books just about the Belgian entries. [cite: 19] But then you might not know Jan Delvaux and Jimmy Dewit yet. [cite: 20]

Naturally, they sink their teeth into 70 finals, 40 semi-finals, countless pre-selections, and our entries in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. [cite: 21] But above all, they come up with the results of significant research of their own. [cite: 22]

The two provide answers to pressing questions such as:

  • has ABBA actually ever been to Waterloo? [cite: 24]
  • which Belgian entry won the MIA for Hit of the Year in 2017? [cite: 25]
  • who is Jennifer Jennings? [cite: 26]
  • who has never given our country any points? [cite: 27]
  • why does Gustaph always wear a hat? [cite: 28]
  • what is the link between Pink Floyd and Ann Christy? [cite: 29]
  • why wasn't Ben Crabbé allowed to go to the final in 1983? [cite: 30]
  • what is the last Dutch-language song that participated? [cite: 31]
  • who were the soldiers of Liliane Saint-Pierre? [cite: 32]
  • which group wanted to finish last in 1980? [cite: 33]
  • who is in love with Sandra Kim? [cite: 34]

ABOUT BELPOP BONANZA

Belpop Bonanza (est. 2013) is the banner under which Jan Delvaux and Jimmy Dewit (a.k.a. DJ Bobby Ewing) share stories about the most beautiful moments in national music history. Expertly delivered and with the necessary tongue-in-cheek humor.

ABOUT THE MAKERS

Jan Delvaux (b. 1962) fell into a barrel of stories about Belgian pop music at an early age. According to Bart Peeters, he knows more about Belpop than Wikipedia.

Jimmy Dewit (b. 1971) is a music maker, music selector, and music talker. He creates soundtracks and spins records as DJ Bobby Ewing and with Discobar Galaxie.
