On October 7, The Arena will once again focus on Gaza. Because we cannot talk about it enough with each other. We will engage in debate about the principle from the UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide: Since 1948, all countries are obligated under international law to prevent or stop a suspected genocide. This includes Belgium.
During The Arena, we will take a closer look at the principle and current policy. We will do this with H.E. Dr. Amal Jadou-Shakaa, the Palestinian ambassador to Belgium, politicians Kathleen Depoorter (N-VA) & Els Van Hoof (cd&v), and professor of international law Dimitri Van Den Meerssche. Fien Sabbe will moderate.
During the debate, Manoeuvre will also be on stage, with their solidarity embroidery dedicated to the victims of the slaughter in Gaza. They are embroidering the names of the victims onto a very long piece of fabric – they have been doing so since October 2023. Manoeuvre is an artistic workshop in Ghent, where textiles, everyday life and art come together in polyphony.
