    BALZAAL

Get ready for an evening that explores, pushes and redefines the boundaries of (hyper)pop

Get ready for an unpredictable night out in our renewed BALZAAL with a trippy line-up full of emotion, experimentation and beats that hit as hard as they comfort. Catnapp blends drum and bass, jungle and hyperpop into something raw and compelling. Zonmai blurs the boundaries between rap and chanson with her autotune and French melancholy. Rostgoed throws genres overboard and lets queer energy pulsate through the speakers in sounds between (electro) pop and nightcore.

Deeply rooted in Buenos Aires bass music scene, Argentinian native Ampi Battaglia Lopez started performing as Catnapp in 2010, fusing elements of drum and bass, jungle, dancehall and hyper pop, all filtered through a unique artistic lens of her own.

Later on, she further evolved artistically, always with the main goal of creating music that is fun, interesting and genuine all at the same time. Embracing Berlin's thriving creative energy, this period also saw the launch of her label, Napp Records, initially as a platform for her own releases and later as an incubator for other artists she felt inspired by.

In 2018, Rihanna selected her tracks “Flame Bitch", “YPMH" and “Backwere” for a runway show at New York's Fashion Week and a year later, Catnapp starred in the Emmy award winning Netflix series Unorthodox, which also features two of her songs, further amplifying her global reach. Since then Catnapp has fully come into her own. Her electrifying live performances have been featured at major European festivals and are a testament to her artistic vision, masterfully juxtaposing soaring melodies with harsh beats, delicate vocals with powerful rap verses, and playful charm with edgy, sometimes uncomfortable, intensity.

"I always want to give something more to the public with my shows. A special experience. Something inspiring that they can take home with them and that gives them some drive. Im always trying to make something different."

- Catnapp in conversation with COEVAL magazine

Zonmai is a 23-year-old French artist who has been living in Brussels for several years. She creates a hybrid and avant-garde musical world in which she combines autotune with influences from French and British rap, new pop and French chanson. With her distinctive phrasing and unique melodies, she connects with a generation without complexes, in which experimentation and intimacy come together naturally. Zonmai rejects musical boundaries and allows herself to explore everything. Her universe, sometimes characterised by sobering lucidity, sometimes charged with glowing hope, is built up through remarkable collaborations with beatmakers. Her music, initially created in the intimacy of her bedroom, took on a new dimension thanks to the contribution of musicians on stage, who brought more organic sounds and a more refined approach, without losing the essence of her artistic identity.

Rostgoed doesn't like to feel genre-d, and neither should you, so be ready for eclectic sets celebrating queerness in different sounds, somewhere between (electro)pop, contemporary beats, nightcore and more – hard to be soft, queer to be comforting, with staccato rhythms and reworked classics flowing in and out of each other. Anything goes, as long as it's moving — physically or emotionally.

Rostgoed started DJ'ing at Antwerp drag event Send in the Clowns, where he is a resident. He’s shared the stage with the likes of Romy, Trixie Mattel, Coucou Chloe and many more. Through an ever shifting appearance and carefully selected sets full of storytelling, he explores his own gender identity, and invites the audience to do just that.
