Anneleen Van Bossuyt

Lecturer

Anneleen Van Bossuyt (1980) is the Minister for Asylum and Migration, Social Integration, and Urban Policy in the De Wever government. Additionally, she is the faction leader of the N-VA in the city council of Ghent.

She began her professional career as an assistant at the Faculty of Law of Ghent University, where she graduated in European law. Later, she transitioned to the research department of the N-VA to follow European policy. In the 2014 elections, she became a member of the European Parliament. There, she focused on issues such as entrepreneurship regulation, consumer protection, and innovation and energy policy. In 2017, she became the first Flemish female chair of the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection, and also the youngest woman ever in that role.

In 2019 and 2024, she was elected as the lead candidate in East Flanders for the federal parliament. For the local elections of 2024, more than 10,000 residents of Ghent voted for her. Since February 3, 2025, she has been combining her role as faction leader in the Ghent city council with her ministerial position for Asylum and Migration, Social Integration, and Urban Policy in the De Wever government. From there, Anneleen aims to gain more control over migration flows by implementing a strict but fair migration policy.
