Galician choreographer Janet Novás receives Spain's highest dance award
On Thursday, 2 October, the Galician choreographer and dancer Janet Novás received the Premio Nacional de Danza 2025. The jury praised Novás, who was awarded in the performance category, for "the technical excellence and great appeal of her work." On 7 November, we will be presenting a special work by her and Mercedes Peón.
Janet Novás has built an impressive body of work from international projects since 2008. In her work, she uses her body as the primary instrument. Novas has won several awards, including the "El Ojo Crítico" from Rne (2021) and the Catalan Critics' Award for Best Dancer for the performance 'Mercedes mais eu' (2021), which will be seen on Friday, November 7 in Ghent as part of EUROPALIA ESPAÑA.
For 'Mercedes máis eu', Novás collaborates with musician and singer Mercedes Peón - also from Galicia. The two artists bring their desire for collaboration and encounter to the stage, a continuous search for experiences that touch on affection and memories. The emphasis is on the relationship between dance and music. In a mix of memories, songs, and choreographies, you see and feel their shared roots.
