Wilkommen, bienvenue, welcome, im cabaret, au cabaret, to cabaret! Send in the Clowns is back at Club Wintercircus for a Videodroom party. This time, it’s inspired by the iconic film ‘Cabaret’ (Bob Fosse, 1972) starring the equally iconic Liza Minnelli.

“It’s the law of physics. Whenever there’s this much gay in one room, Liza manifests,” as Miranda Hobbes put it in Sex and the City II, and that’s exactly how it’ll be at Club Wintercircus! And not just any Liza, but Sally Bowles, her character from Cabaret. Videodroom and Send in the Clowns once again welcome you to a dazzling party featuring drag performances based on Bob Fosse’s classic Cabaret and DJ sets that lend themselves perfectly to escapist hedonism.

What good is sitting all alone in your room? Come hear the music play! Life is a cabaret!

For their drag performances, the Antwerp-based Send in the Clowns collective has once again drawn inspiration from one of their favourite films. ‘Cabaret’ is set in Berlin in 1931. Brian Roberts (Michael York) meets Sally Bowles (Liza Minnelli), who sings at the Kit Kat Klub. The city is reeling from high unemployment, and against this backdrop, a certain Hitler is gaining ever more popularity. The grim outside world stands in stark contrast to the glitz and jazz hands within the club’s walls. Add to that a dash of a love triangle, skirmishes with young Nazis and catchy musical numbers, and you get a queer history lesson that at times feels eerily topical.
