Pothamus

360° immersive show - support: TAKH
Democrazy & VIERNULVIER
  • Thu 23.10
    19:30 - 22:30
    Club Wintercircus, Gent

Sludge/post-metal band Pothamus mixes music with metaphysics and takes you on a mesmerizing trip. This three-piece ensemble from Mechelen, Belgium, was formed in 2013 and has since managed to draw an ever-growing audience into their unique blend of repetitive riffs, soaring soundscapes, tribalesque percussion and humming bass lines. Pothamus' enigmatic world revolves around the search for meaning. Mattias M. Van Hulle's lyrics blend Eastern philosophy and Western esotericism into a unique ontology, returning the band to the fundamentals of music: coming together and drifting away.

To make this show complete POTHAMUS invited the band TAKH as support act.

Nele Fack brings Iljen Puts' “Codex Pothamus” to life for a unique experience of the Mechelen trio's universe.

The band's lyrics and quest for meaning are graphically translated by visual artist Iljen Put into the 'Codex Pothamus': an ever-evolving mythological, cosmological and philosophical work of art that visually accompanies the band. Today, the musical end products, the lyrics, and the 'Codex Pothamus' are completely intertwined. They are the pillars of a transcendent whole; the gateways to a parallel universe. At Club Wintercircus, this universe will be brought to life more than ever by visual composer Nele Fack. She reworked Iljen Put's graphic art into moving images. These will be transformed live to the music in a 360° setting into an immersive total experience.

Pothamus is more than a band. The music offers a gateway to connection and contemplation, inviting spectators to explore the depths of both sound and meaning. A performance by Pothamus is a quest for collective catharsis, weaving trance-inducing soundscapes and metaphysical themes into a powerful and immersive live experience. The unique venue and infrastructure of the Winter Circus is the perfect setting for this total experience.

On support TAKH

TAKH found its origin back in 2015, when The black heart rebellion invited Annelies Van Dinter as guest musician on the record ‘people when you see the smoke ‘. A common love for doom and gloom, together with the raw approach of music that wrenches the soul, makes them write new music together.

Inspired by the likes of Swans, Low or Woven Hand, they challenge themselves to focus on pure intensity, not shunning the experiment and questioning what truly moves them in life.

TAKH released their self- titled debut album on Consouling Sounds records may 2023.
