    De Vooruit, Gent
    THEATERZAAL

Dutch composer and pianist Joep Beving returns to the stage in 2026 with a new album. His focus on themes such as change, uncertainty and renewal has led him to search for ways in which sound can create space for reflection and connection in a world that often feels in flux.

Support by Michael A. Muller

Known for his reflective and spacious piano work, Joep’s latest material — featured on his forthcoming album — moves with a sense of openness and curiosity. It balances structure and intuition, often feeling guided by both the human hand and something more organic. The pieces invite listeners into moments of stillness, movement and contemplation, where clarity and ambiguity can coexist.

This concert brings Joep’s evolving musical language to an intimate live setting, offering audiences the first chance to experience the atmosphere and ideas that shape his new album.

Classic with a twist, piano encouraging deep listening and feeling.

Relaxing and stimulating at the same time, with an eye to the future, away from the self.

About Michael A. Muller

Michael A. Muller's wide-ranging work—spanning film scores, installations, and original recordings—emerges from a practice of deep listening, transforming both delicate human moments and the grandeur of natural phenomena into rich sonic environments.

His spartan musical landscapes obscure the boundaries between past and present. This versatility has resulted in projects including narrative films, bespoke scores for brands and site-specific curations for institutions.

After two decades as co-founder and multi-instrumentalist for the chamber ensemble Balmorhea, Muller's current solo work focuses in the threshold where sound shapes consciousness—investigating music's transformation of space, time and human connection.

His early catalog recordings were released by Deutsche Grammophon, and feature collaborations with Víkingur Ólafsson, Hania Rani, Alva Noto and Douglas McCombs of Tortoise.

Muller now co-operates the newly-formed Ojas Music label in partnership with The Vinyl Factory, which will soon release an ambient/piano collaboration with he and Otto A. Totland. This tour supporting Joep Beving will showcase Muller's forthcoming full-length, Elyria Sound (May 2026 release), which features the pure tonality of plaintive, open-tuned guitar with a focus on mindful listening.
