Joe Jackson, the chameleon of sophisticated pop music, returns to the present and his familiar musical playing field with “Hope and Fury”.

The unpredictable British musician Joe Jackson has a lot in store for 2026. His new album “Hope and Fury” will be released on 10 April, followed by a major international tour with no fewer than three performances in Belgium. Together with his band, he will present the new album on 24 November at De Vooruit.

With “Hope and Fury”, which he himself describes as “Bicoastal LatinJazzFunkRock”, Jackson returns to the present and to his familiar musical playing field with nine energetic songs. After laying the foundation for the album in Berlin, Jackson returned to Reservoir Studios in New York with co-producer Patrick Dillett. There he was reunited with his regular musicians: bassist Graham Maby, guitarist Teddy Kumpel and drummer Doug Yowell. Newcomer Paulo Stagnaro, a Peruvian percussionist, adds a Latin American touch to the mix.

The result is reminiscent of a cross between “Fool” (2019), “Laughter and Lust” (1991) and “Night and Day” (1982). Like these classics, “Hope and Fury” is full of catchy melodies, original lyrics, characteristic humour and funky grooves, with vocals and keyboards that are more powerful than ever. Don't miss this opportunity to discover “Hope and Fury” live at De Vooruit!

Since his breakthrough in the late 1970s, Jackson has continually explored the boundaries between pop, jazz, classical and rock. His career is testament to his irrepressible curiosity and refusal to be pigeonholed into one genre.

Raised in a working-class family in Portsmouth, his asthma led him to find refuge in music at an early age. After studying at the Royal Academy of Music, he formed the Joe Jackson Band in 1977. He broke through internationally with “Look Sharp!” and the hit “Is She Really Going Out with Him?”. His combination of sharp lyrics and melodic pop became his trademark.

Jackson's career is a series of musical transformations: from new wave and ska to swing and the refined pop jazz of “Night and Day”, with global hits such as “Steppin” Out'. Albums such as “Body & Soul” and “Big World” confirmed his reputation as a perfectionist and innovative composer.

From the late 1980s onwards, he increasingly explored classical and film music, including “Will Power” and “Symphony No. 1”, which won a Grammy. His autobiography, A Cure for Gravity, revealed him to be more of a composer than a pop star. Nevertheless, he remained faithful to pop with “Night and Day II”, “Rain” and “Fast Forward”, among others.

Recent projects, such as “Fool” and “What a Racket!”, show that his creativity is undiminished. Jackson remains a musical chameleon: curious, uncompromising and always innovative. His oeuvre proves that integrity and imagination outlast fashion or fame.

A brilliant and bombastic radio play, a farcical revue led by an overwrought brass band leader, daring and a high-quality musical delight.
