    De Vooruit, Gent
    Ballroom

This evening brings together two ways of thinking and working: that of queer theorist Jack Halberstam (Female Masculinity, The Queer Art of Failure…), who explores how we might exchange the existing order for new possible worlds, and that of choreographer Lisa Vereertbrugghen, who approaches these questions through the body and collective dance practices.

In his new book, Anarchitecture After Everything: A Trans Manifesto, Jack Halberstam revisits radical architectural practices through the lens of transness. Cutting, opening up and dismantling are not acts of destruction, but ways of creating space for other bodies, for new forms of living together and other possible worlds.

We bring Halberstam’s thinking into dialogue with the practice of choreographer, dancer and dramaturg Lisa Vereertbrugghen. Through her research into hardcore techno, slow dancing and queerness, she explores new ideas about time and space, and radically different ways of being together.

From their distinct practices, Halberstam and Vereertbrugghen show what becomes possible when we unsettle established ways of living, occupying space, moving and coming together.

The evening consists of:
- a 45-minute keynote by Jack Halberstam
- a 10-20-minute artistic introduction to Lisa Vereertbrugghen’s practice
- followed by a 30-minute conversation between the two and a Q&A with the audience.
