Jack Halberstam x Lisa Vereertbrugghen

Jack Halberstam and Lisa Vereertbrugghen share an interest in the question of how we can imagine a different world. Halberstam, a queer theorist and author of works such as 'Female Masculinity' and 'The Queer Art of Failure', explores how we can exchange the existing order for new possibilities. Vereertbrugghen starts from the body and collective dance practices to investigate those same questions.

In his new book 'Anarchitecture After Everything: A Trans Manifesto', Jack Halberstam looks at radical forms of architecture, such as those by Gordon Matta-Clark, from the perspective of transness. Cutting, opening, and breaking do not necessarily mean that you destroy something. They can actually create space for other bodies, new ways of living together, and other possible worlds.

We bring Halberstam's thinking together with the practice of choreographer, dancer, and dramaturg Lisa Vereertbrugghen. In her research on hardcore techno, slow dance, and queerness, she tests new ideas about time and space and radically different forms of being together.

From their different practices, Halberstam and Vereertbrugghen show what becomes possible when we put existing ways of living and moving into question.
