If anyone has ever modeled for the cliché of the 'creative jack-of-all-trades', it is undoubtedly Patrick Blenkarn. You can address this friendly Canadian as a director, game developer, writer, musician, animation artist, polyglot, and performer (not to mention his degrees in philosophy, theater, and film). He prefers to dwell at the intersection of language, social critique, art, and games. This fall, he will come to VIERNULVIER with the game/performance asses.masses - once described as Animal Farm meets Pokémon meets Final Fantasy.
Under the motto "we're here now anyway," we thought it would be a great idea to have him host this workshop alongside asses.masses.
The goal of the workshop: together with the participants, brainstorm ideas for games with a socially critical angle. These ideas will then be developed into 'analog' prototypes (read: pen, paper, and collective creativity).
We will kick off this evening at 6 PM at the fantastic location of Nerdlab in Lousbergpark. We will share a bite to eat, and then work together with Patrick. We aim to wrap up by 10 PM.
We at VIERNULVIER and Nerdlab would very much like to use the outcome of this workshop to organize a Game Jam in a (yet to be determined) follow-up project where we actually try to build the game(s). And if that works out, we will find a spot for the game on an arcade cabinet in De Vooruit!
