How the Palestinian people have been resisting the erasure of their rights and stories for decades

How does peaceful resistance take shape amid the constant loss of territory, rights and life?  In her book 'Palestine: the resistance against loss', researcher Brigitte Herremans (FWO-UGent) highlights how the Palestinian people have been resisting the erasure of their rights and stories for decades. Central to this essay is the interaction between international law and literature. Whereas the law provides a framework for identifying crimes, documenting them and demanding accountability, art opens up space to make experiences of injustice visible and to keep memories alive.

During this evening, journalist Nicky Aerts (VRT) will talk to Brigitte Herremans about the role of imagination, narratives and the law. Poet Ramzi Salem will recite poetry from his collection 'Rechtopstaand sterven' (Dying Upright). Ramzi and Brigitte will also discuss the power of literature and art as forms of resistance against immeasurable loss.
