World Fair Trade Day
We are showcasing this international day dedicated to fair trade in the window of VIERNULVIER Café, as a proud Fair Trade Hotspot in Ghent.
If you’re walking through Ghent on 9 May 2026, you’d do well to look up a bit more often. Or better still: take a look at the windows you pass by. Because on World Fair Trade Day, the shop windows of Ghent’s Fair Trade Hotspots will be transformed into vibrant works of art. Five illustrators, each with their own distinctive style, will literally bring fair trade to life.
One of the windows at the VIERNULVIER Café features a drawing by Louise De Meester. Her illustrations arise from a playful mix of analogue techniques and exude imagination, spontaneity and warmth.
For this illustration, Louise drew inspiration from her own visits to our VIERNULVIER Café. You’ll often find her there, enjoying a delicious cup of Oxfam coffee or our iconic spaghetti, and soaking up the creative energy with her friends. You can also spot her other favourite drink in the drawing – the homemade lemonade – and the lemon from our Fresh Juice campaign, which you can still find at the corner of our Terras. Fun fact: if you look closely, you’ll see Louise in the photo enjoying a slice of bread pudding, lovingly made to combat food waste.
The illustrations not only brighten up the streetscape, they also do something else: they draw attention to the fair trade entrepreneurs behind those windows.
Fair and sustainable trade is in Ghent’s DNA. And on World Fair Trade Day, it’s your chance to discover the Fair Trade Hotspots in Ghent!
