Honeyboys
A VR film by Nemo VosHoneyboys is a mind-expanding descent into the guts of consumer society in 360 VR07.10-17.10Honeyboys grew out of an image that stuck with us; A Chinese city during Covid, where during the lockdown, almost the entire economy had shut down except for delivery drivers and livestreamers. The boys were delivering food and goods to the livestreaming girls, who were advertising those same products back to the boys and to each other. Labor and consumption stripped down to nothing.
The gig economy gave us the way in. It’s a system most people brush past without really seeing. A rider on a bike, a box on a doorstep, labor that stays hidden behind the app. This invisible system became the core of the piece. We think growing inequality, here and everywhere, is behind a lot of what’s going wrong. Honeyboys doesn’t offer a solution. We don’t think there is one. It’s a way of looking straight at reality and finding some meaning in it anyway.
The viewer moves through the piece without control, pulled forward at a steady pace with no stopping and no turning back. Spatial sound design by Spinvis wraps the world around you, so it’s something you inhabit rather than watch.
We didn’t just want to make a film about overconsumption and exploitation. We wanted to make something that lets you feel, for thirty-six minutes, what it is like to be caught inside those systems, and trust the audience to take it from there.

Lesbian Simulator
A VR Experience by Iris van der Meule07.10-16.10Inspired by the personal experiences of Iris van der Meule and those close to her, ‘Lesbian Simulator’ aims to create awareness in a playful manner. Users experience some of the key aspects in the existence of a queer girl such as: coming-out to various people, making new friends, going on a date but also the first time feeling discriminated or even verbally abused. ’Lesbian Simulator’ mirrors the blind spots within our society in relation to the acceptance of lesbians (and indirectly, of queer people in general). It is an ode to love and sexuality, about the exploration of your sexual orientation and about being embraced by the lesbian and queer community. It is a celebration of diversity and inclusivity.
The experience is set-up as a game. Users build their own lesbian persona and navigate her through various challenging moments. The simulator sometimes requires participants to discover and interact with other characters. Other times they are given the space to reflect upon and analyze reactions of other protagonists, mirroring prejudices and misconceptions lesbian can also experience in the real world. The player gets to experience the way in which they are treated differently as a lesbian in terms of inequality, discrimination and sexual harassment. But fear not, it’s not all dark and gloomy. Next to these difficult situations, the users will also experience the positive side of life as a lesbian, such as the warm embrace of the queer community and celebratory moments like the annual Pride.

A Long Goodbye
Interactieve VR-film door Kate Voet & Victor Maes met muziek van Joep Beving12.05-16.05A Long Goodbye tells the story of Ida, a 72-year-old pianist living with dementia. In this animated, interactive VR experience, we walk in Ida’s shoes. We experience a day in her life, as her reality is fading. The apartment, where she spent a lifetime with her beloved husband Daniel, first feels empty and undefined. When we interact with objects and play the tape recordings of her husband, her playful world gradually comes to life, as if drawn in paint before our eyes.
Like pieces of a puzzle, memories and conversations help Ida to rediscover herself. But we also discover Daniel’s struggles, as he hopes to stay connected and realizes their remaining time together may be short. A Long Goodbye is a poetic experience about the impact of dementia, but above all it is about love and the long goodbye of two lovers who shared a life together.
