Tristan

Horeca

Meet Tristan, a key member of the evening shift at our VIERNULVIER Café. He has been working with great enthusiasm at VIERNULVIER for over two years.

How did he end up here? "After my studies, I wanted to move from Bruges to Ghent. The first job vacancy I came across was for evening supervisor at De Vooruit. Although that position had already been filled internally, they said: ‘Your profile would fit here; we are still looking for someone for both the day and evening shifts. Would you be interested in this?’ And that’s how my adventure here began."

For Tristan, it’s mainly the people who make the difference. "The contact with customers is nice, but especially the contact with colleagues. We have a very strong team with all kinds of people who contribute in their own way to the operation and the atmosphere. Additionally, I like that you get quite a bit of responsibility here." The dynamic aspect of the job also appeals to him: "Especially when the Theater Hall empties out and suddenly 500 to 600 people come through, it feels like an exciting game."

Tristan starts his evening with planning and reservations. "Between 5:30 PM and 8:30 PM, we have the dining service, and afterwards we make sure everything is back in order." The evening work brings challenges: "The biggest difficulty is the self-sufficiency you need, because many employees who are there during the day are not there then." Still, he appreciates the unique dynamics of the evening shift: "I am fascinated by nightlife; I like to surround myself with characters who appear once the sun has gone down."

His favorite moments? "I find it hard to choose just one memory because there are so many. Reflecting on the evening together after work or going out for a drink, those are things that stick with me." The Terrace Bar is also one of his favorite spots: "Working outside on the Terrace on a beautiful summer day is truly wonderful. The atmosphere there is always special, especially when friends or acquaintances come by."

According to Tristan, the mix of interesting people and projects is what makes VIERNULVIER unique. "What initially attracted me to work here is that, in addition to the performances, there is a unique atmosphere in this historic, socially-oriented house. Interesting, like-minded people — both colleagues and customers — create a nice dynamic. I think ‘cross-pollination’ is a good term for that."
