Lies

Production

This is Lies! She has been working at De Vooruit since January 2012. “This was my first permanent job; before that, I freelanced a lot – even abroad. I started here as a project coordinator during quite turbulent times. But over the years, my role has evolved significantly.”

Today, Lies is the program coordinator and oversees everything that happens in the house. “We want to present a program that is balanced: artistic, network-oriented, and with space for external initiatives. And that within the possibilities of our team, the building, and the audience.” In 2017 – the year De Vooruit became an art institution – she was involved in shaping that new direction. “At that time, we said: everything that happens here is part of our program. And how do we give that as a whole meaning?”

As a leader, Lies strongly focuses on care. “We operate on human capital here. It’s important that colleagues feel good, can grow, and receive something in return. Because yes, we ask a lot, so the balance must be right.”

Lies was also closely involved in the development of Club Wintercircus. “That is an exciting journey. We experiment with immersive experiences, sound, and visuals. But we are also methodically and organizationally building something new. That combination of pioneering and ensuring it works for everyone energizes me.”

When asked what she enjoys most about her job, she answers without hesitation: “Those small moments of connection in the office. And at the same time, the pride when something big succeeds, like the way we have unfolded our role as an art institution. That we have entered into partnerships, shared expertise, and created space. That is not an obvious path, but one I fully support.”

Her favorite spot in the house? “On the second balcony of the Theater Hall, secretly looking out over the audience with a drink in hand… that remains special.”
