'Frozen Vanitas' reached its melting point and turned transience into an event
The icy starting point for our spring campaign 'Fresh juice' is a series of ice sculptures with the evocative title 'Frozen Vanitas', created and photographed by Belgian (photo) artist Athos Burez.
Two of the ice sculptures from this series slowly melted away from their pedestals at freezing temperatures in the VIERNULVIER Café between the end of November 2025 and January 2026.
The last and largest was exhibited during our Open House on Sunday 8 February 2026, and we let it slowly melt away on Monday 9 February, a ritual end to our Housewarming week, but also a reminder that everything is temporary, and therefore no less, but perhaps even more, valuable.
