Soil Biographies
VIERNULVIER & LOUD

What hidden lives lie buried in the ground?

'Soil Biographies' is about the subconscious, growth, hidden life, and the ground beneath our feet and the voices that rise from it. The two versatile artists Louis Vanhaverbeke and Farida Amadou create a sensory sound performance in which they engage in a musical conversation with the earth. Louis found stability in agriculture after a period of mental disarray.

Louis Vanhaverbeke has created works and toured internationally with performances such as Kokito, The Bike Piece, MULTIVERSE, and Mikado Remix. For years, he disappeared from the spotlight but is now fully back. Louis found stability in agriculture after a period of mental disarray, where he rediscovered his love for theater.

"Farmers are also artists; both believe in creative power."
Louis Vanhaverbeke in De Standaard

Farida Amadou, a bassist in the improvisation scene, approaches sound as a physical force. She seeks ways to connect with oneself, with others, and with the earth through sound. She has collaborated with artists such as Peter Brötzmann, Thurston Moore, Moor Mother, Linda Sharrock, and Marc Ribot. She regularly performs internationally, works on new albums, and delves into audiovisual performance forms and community-oriented workshops.

Together, they build a playground where the earth serves as both backdrop, instrument, and collaborator. They unearth hidden feelings, lost objects, and many emotions that often just fail to see the light. Between beauty and dirt, a breathing and enchanting landscape of sound and transformation emerges. 'Soil Biographies' invites the audience to listen together, dig into ourselves, and re-ground ourselves.
