    19:00 - 22:00
    Plantentuin, Gent
    Palmarium

Saxophone in the chicken coop and Fuzzy Bear music tailored to our greenhouse! A Palmarium that sparkles and relaxes with Adia Vanheerentals and Fuzzy Bears, the alter ego of De Beren Gieren.

Fulco Ottervanger, Lieven Van Pée, and Simon Segers, known as Fuzzy Bears, take the jazzy sound they are famous for with De Beren Gieren to even greater heights in the form of ‘unsequenced electronic music’. Inspired by Belgian surrealism and techno, they give free rein to their musical versatility.

Saxophonist Adia Vanheerentals enchants her audience with equally versatile sounds from her brass instruments in her solo work, entering into dialogue with her surroundings, with strange yet familiar music as the final chord.

The PALMARIUM concert series brings seven evenings of music to the beautiful Botanical Garden of the Ghent University Museum. This series is a collaboration between VIERNULVIER, Democrazy & GUM.

Fulco Ottervanger, Lieven Van Pée, and Simon Segers, also known as De Beren Gieren, perform for PALMARIUM as Fuzzy Bears, a balm for the soul! Unsequenced electronic music played on decades-old synthesizers. The trio collected 10 compositions. Think Cluster, Hiroshi Yoshimura, Mort Garson, and Brian Eno. German detective series, Japanese train jingles, and classic children's television.

They came up with the idea of electrocuting their jazz brains after a performance at the Willem II Institute in Den Bosch. They discovered the collection of vintage electronic equipment and immediately decided to come back. With only a few sketches and melodies at hand, they plugged in and played for two days. Fuzzy Bears create their own world. A secret, dreamy place full of enchanting sounds and melodies.

For her first solo album, entitled 'Here Are 5 Reasons To Meditate', saxophonist Adia Vanheerentals recorded five pieces that are simultaneously intimate, calm, wild, and melodic. The album was released as a single-sided LP by Dennis Tyfus' label Ultra Eczema in 2024. In the same year, Adia was selected as one of Klara's Twintigers, a platform for the most promising young musicians in Belgium.

For her second album, 'Taking Place', Adia recorded inventive improvisations that not only make use of the full range of her instrument and various playing techniques, but also of the ambient sounds in the unusual locations where she recorded the music—the echo of a silo, the clucking of a chicken coop, or passing cars. These sounds inspired the music, creating a dialogue
with the environment.
