Friendship + Félicette

PALMARIUM 2026
VIERNULVIER & Democrazy & Kunstmest & GUM
  • Thu 14.05
    20:00 - 22:00
    Plantentuin, Gent
    Palmarium

Dreamy country with a rough edge, straight from the basement of Philadelphia, and Belgian indie pop with a naive seriousness that will melt your heart.

Friendship's music moves somewhere between dream and reality — and it is precisely there, among the tropical leaves of the botanical garden, that this world truly comes to life.

The Philadelphia-based band creates dreamy country music with a rough edge: poetic, warm and lived-in. Their new album Caveman Wakes Up (Merge Records, 2025) sounds like an alarm clock at the edge of a dream: as familiar as it is strange. From raw and jagged guitars to soft flute lines, from Motown rhythms to fragile poetry — Friendship lifts country far beyond the genre, to something unique, something deeper.

Frontman Dan Wriggins sings with a raw baritone about work, love, faith and emptiness — with lyrics that linger long after the last note has faded away. On the languid spring evening of Palmarium, their music takes on a new form: languid, melancholic and unexpectedly comforting.

Félicette is a project by Sam (Brorlab, Bontridders, Kotskat, Croptopcore). Originally created as a means to experiment with turntablism and sound, the project gradually evolved into a more traditional singer-songwriter style with folk elements. Somewhere between the ethereal atmosphere of Grouper, h hunt, and the noise of teen suicide.

The PALMARIUM concert series brings seven evenings of music to the beautiful Botanical Garden of the Ghent University Museum. This series is a collaboration between VIERNULVIER, Democrazy & GUM.

Friendship originated in Philadelphia and grew to become a pivotal figure in the contemporary folk and country scene. A whole circle of related artists has formed around the band members — from MJ Lenderman and Wednesday to Florry, Fust and Sadurn. Drummer Michael Cormier O'Leary and bassist Jon Samuels run Dear Life Records together, while guitarist Peter Gill is also active with his own band, 2nd Grade.

On Caveman Wakes Up, you can hear how close-knit this community sounds: the band switches effortlessly between subdued intimacy and full, wave-like arrangements. The result is an album that feels both loose and meticulous — a tribute to the creative soul of music itself.

Friendship makes music for those who want to wander, daydream,
get lost and come home again.
