About Carrier

Guy Brewer is an artist defined by exploration, moving along the margins of electronic music to blur boundaries and challenge expectations. His story begins in his teenage years, with raw, improvised experiments in drum & bass. In 2003, he co-founded Commix, a duo that became central to the evolution of the genre and a fixture of the post–tech-step new wave, releasing on seminal labels such as Metalheadz, Exit and 31 Records. Their work gained universal acclaim, leading to a series of releases that attained classic status. As the 2000s drew to a close, Brewer stepped away from drum & bass and into techno’s underground, launching the Shifted project and founding the now-defunct Avian label in 2011. For over a decade, he explored dubbed-out minimalism, rhythmic noise, and stark drone experiments.

In 2023, after relocating from Berlin to Antwerp, Brewer closed the book on the Shifted alias and committed fully to building something new from the ground up, unveiling Carrier with Lazy Mechanics, released via Will Bankhead’s The Trilogy Tapes label. Drawing on a career shaped by constant exploration and reinvention, the project distills influences from the golden era of drum & bass, dub techno, and experimental electronics into a unified approach that values space, simplicity, and atmosphere over adherence to genre. As Resident Advisor notes, Carrier is “immersive but elusive… dense with implied rhythm and melody,” its surfaces “carefully eroded, like weathered concrete,” in Pitchfork’s words, “where patient pacing and bruised atmospheres linger long after the tracks end.”

The catalogue introduces stripped-back soundsystem architectures, fragmented rhythmic structures, dense polymetric drum programming, degraded textures, and submerged detail. Over time, it develops further into low-lit spaces where ambient, dub techno, and minimalist composition intersect, a language shaped less by genre boundaries than by atmosphere and intent.

About emer

Born in Lithuania, living in Brussels, musician and sound artist Marija Rasa explores in her practice sonic spatialisation, texture, and fragility. Since her studies at the Institute of Sonology in The Hague (NL), she has been working on a series of acousmatic pieces for multichannel speaker setups. In these compositions, she carefully sculpts fictional soundscapes out of delicate noise, electronic sounds, and field recordings, attentively put together by using a micro montage approach.

Her collaborations extend to diverse musical fields, from electroacoustic experimentation with the duo ugne&maria, with Ugnė Vyliaudaitė, to the electronic music duo forgotten plants, with Konradas Žakauskas. An author of the cassette, 'sea salt' (Lillerne Tapes), double single in collaboration with Ugnė Uma (STROOM), and her latest LP 'Fog' (Short Span), written under the moniker emer

Her music has been described as “delicate but imbued with enormous emotional resonance. This music doesn’t call attention to itself; it doesn’t attempt to pummel you with concrete realizations. Instead, Rasa has shaped a galaxy of gentle swaying soundscapes in which voices are left to wander through nebulas of amorphous melody as we engage with a persistent desire to sink further into these celestial spaces." — Joshua Picard.
