Miren Agur Meabe

Miren Agurtzane Meabe Plaza (Lekeitio, 1962, Basque Country) is a poet, writer, and translator. She writes for both adult and children/young adult audiences.

She received the Critics’ Prize in 2001 and 2011 for her poetry collections El código de la piel and Espuma en las manos, as well as the National Poetry Prize in 2021 for Cómo guardar ceniza en el pecho—all originally written in Basque.

Among her most notable prose works are the autofiction novel Un ojo de cristal (2013) and the short story collection Quema de huesos (2019). In 2025, she published El amante francés, a thriller constructed through poems.

She has been awarded the Euskadi Prize for Young People’s Literature three times for La casa del acantilado, Un año en el faro, and La carretera, and received the Mikel Zarate Prize for La puerta del mar.

Meabe is also a literary translator, having translated works by authors such as Skolastique Mukasonga, Forugh Farrokhzad, Hélène Vignal, and Elia Barceló.

She is a full member of the Basque Language Academy and frequently participates in international literary events.
