Margo
Production
This is Margo! She works in the Production Team, and is responsible for the project coordination and production of the residency platform.
She was previously involved as a volunteer and was later asked to take over a temporary location project. This was her very first real job, and she quickly felt that she had found her place.
“After my temporary assignment, I was asked to work here permanently. In the beginning, my role was mainly operational, but over time I expanded my role further. I took on extra tasks such as supporting HR policy and leading working groups and realization teams. Now I also work on a policy level and contribute to VIERNULVIER as a house. A large part of my work is the residency function. I see myself as an advocate for both the artists and for VIERNULVIER. I support and am the first point of contact for creators at various stages of their work, from the initial phases of development to premieres, both inside and outside De Vooruit. I find the interaction between artists and the house the most interesting. I try to be a kind of bridge, involving colleagues in the creations and giving artists more insight into our operations.”
The best part of her job for Margo is the colleagues, the encounters with the artists, and the unexpected moments that arise during her projects. These are often projects with very diverse groups that grow very organically. “The magic that you sometimes create at unexpected moments can really make my year. I also feel so good in this house and have so much fun with the colleagues. Our team works very well together; we support each other during busy periods and share the same passion for our work.”
When asked about her favorite place, Margo initially thinks of the people and the moments.
“One of my favorite places in the building is the backstage of the Theaterzaal, where the technicians often are, and everyone has their coffee after the break. This place feels like a kind of cozy clubhouse. Also, the grandeur of the building, such as the view from the tower or from the terrace of the COOP, makes me very proud of what we all do. And of course, the Theaterzaal remains a phenomenally clean hall.”
Daring to slow down and connect is, according to Margo, a big challenge for our arts center. “I try to be both an admirer and a critic for VIERNULVIER, and I appreciate the space I get to think critically about our operations. I am critical of the expectations of us as an arts institution and try to keep that reflection conscious. Reflecting and contributing to the house is why I love my work so much.”
