Admiral Freebee was, upon his release in 2003, nothing less than a bomb in the Flemish rock landscape: ‘Rags & Run’, ‘Ever Present’, ‘Einstein Brain’ and ‘Mediterranean Sea’ all scored as singles, and also album tracks like ‘Get Out Of Town’ (what an opener!), ‘There’s A Road’ and closing track ‘Bad Year For Rock 'n Roll’ effortlessly lodged themselves in the collective rock memory, you know that 2003 was a damn good year for rock 'n roll.
Over 20 years later, the album has lost none of its listening pleasure and you can experience that live. In early 2024, the AB was already bursting at the seams for a Rewind concert, in the fall Admiral Freebee will flatten venues and clubs in Flanders and the Netherlands with the ‘Back To The Ever Present’ tour. In 2025, the focus will shift and Van Laere and his band will seek the intimacy of the theater with the ‘Alibies’ tour.
Hanging on the calmest song of the legendary debut, the ballads of Admiral Freebee are central, supplemented with adapted versions of other classics from the richly filled oeuvre of the man who truly taught his people to rock.
