Renting until you're eighty or pinning your hopes on the lottery? The Belgian real estate market feels like an impregnable fortress, especially in popular city centers. While prices fluctuate across the globe, they remain stubbornly high in Belgium. How is that possible? And more importantly: what does the future look like for the younger generation of buyers?

On July 18th, Koortzz and Publisher Borgerhoff & Lamberigts are bringing together an absolute star-studded cast at De Vooruit to leave no stone unturned regarding the real estate market.

The Experts

  • Veronique Goossens: Former chief economist at Belfius and former anchor for Kanaal Z. She dives into the numbers: how is property pricing actually calculated, and why does the Belgian market never collapse?
  • Michel Maus: Professor of tax law and the most renowned tax expert in the country. He dissects the financing and the fiscal side of housing. Is our current system still fit for today?
  • Filip Watteeuw: Ghent City Councilor. He shares the city’s vision: how do we keep Ghent livable and affordable? What is the impact of Airbnb on the housing market, and how do we create supply for the future?

Led by moderator Melissa Giardina, we will engage in a conversation about the (un)affordability of the city, the forced adjustments young buyers are making, and the path we are taking as a society.

This is not an "ivory tower" debate, but an accessible discussion for anyone concerned about housing.

Make sure you're there. For the price of a few beers, you'll get insights you won't hear anywhere else.
