The feminist slogan 'boss in your own belly' has existed for half a century. However, reproductive health is still marked by injustice: the criminalization of abortion, higher maternal and infant mortality rates among people of color, and accumulating evidence of transgressive behavior in intimate care. To what extent has the famous slogan been realized?

Rodante van der Waal analyzes the injustice in the field of fertility through the lens of obstetric and gynecological violence. The lecture will be followed by a panel discussion on respectful maternity care and obstetric violence in Belgium, and the various ways in which healthcare providers, patients, and feminists can translate the utopian philosophy of reproductive justice into practice.
