Rena is fourteen. She expects nothing from life, nothing from herself, nothing from school. And everyone is allowed to know that. She sets the mood in class, she is loud and sassy. Until in the middle of the school year a new pupil joins the class, who disappears just as suddenly after a few months: Fatilou. Since then, something has changed in the class. Most of all for Rena.

What if your whole universe is suddenly turned upside down and you are finally truly seen? Rena tries to grasp what happened to her and, together with her class, makes a film about Fatilou, the girl who appeared and disappeared.

What if your whole universe is suddenly turned upside down and you are finally truly seen? Rena tries to grasp what happened to her and, together with her class, makes a film about Fatilou, the girl who appeared and disappeared.

Fatilou M. is the portrait of two contemporary heroines in young people's language, played by Ahlaam Teghadouini and Prisca-Agnes Nishimwe/Nira De Groof, directed by Bart Van Nuffelen and Fien Leysen. Anthony Nti, Chingiz Karibekov and Remy M. Ndow bring the class to life with a film in collaboration with the Spectrumschool (Deurne). The students act in the film after intensive acting coaching from actor Soufiane Chilah and helped make the props. Writer and director Bart Van Nuffelen wrote a text based on numerous testimonies, after months of preliminary research at Antwerp schools together with performer and musician Prisca-Agnes Nishimwe.

Fatilou M. is, after Dinska Bronska and Dounia B., the third part of a theatrical triptych about young people growing up in the city.

“Fatilou M. bewijst dat de inbreng van de niet-professionals precies de kracht kan uitmaken van een stuk.”
