Moon Duo presents 'Stars Are The Light'

Psychedelische krautrock en elektronische drones: zo kon je tot voor kort in een notendop de muzikale exploten van Erik ‘Ripley’ Johnson (Wooden Shjips) en Sanae Yamada omschrijven. Beter bekend als Moon Duo verkennen ze sinds 2009 allerlei occulte universa die wij als gewone stervelingen nooit betreden. Op hun nieuwe album ‘Stars Are The Light’ slaat het duo andere paden in: seventies funk en nineties rave vormen deze keer de leidraad. Hun wereldtournee starten ze in De Vooruit, live geruggensteund door een even geestverruimende lichtshow van beeldend kunstenaar Emmanuel Biard. Moon Duo’s zevende album ‘Stars Are The Light’, uit op 27 september, is één grote hallucinogene, repetitieve trip, en markeert een verkenning van onbekende territoria. Johnsons herkenbare gitaargeluid en Yamada’s tripperige synths en dito vocals blijven aanwezig, maar krijgen een stevige disco-injectie. Sanae over de plaat: “We have changed, the nature of our collaboration has changed, the world has changed, and we wanted the new music to reflect that.”
 

“It’s something we hadn’t referenced in our music before, but its core concepts really align with what we were circling around as we made the album. Disco is dance music, first and foremost, and we were digging our way into the idea of this endless dance of bodies in nature. We were also very inspired by the space and community of a disco – a space of free self-expression through dance, fashion, and mode of being; where everyone was welcome, diversity was celebrated, and identity could be fluid; where the life force that animates each of us differently could flower.” - Sanae Yamada

Voor de ‘Stars Of The Light’-tour werkt Moon Duo samen met Emmanuel Biard. De Britse kunstenaar maakte in het verleden lichtinstallaties voor live shows van de Schotse producer Koreless en clubicoon Lotic - zijn ‘Endless Power’ was dit jaar nog te zien tijdens OUT THE FRAME.
