MIET WARLOP

Miet Warlop (1978) received a master’s in Multimedia Design from Ghent’s Royal Academy of Fine Arts (KASK). Her graduation project, ‘Huilend Hert / Aangeschoten Wild’ (Crying Deer, Under Fire) won the Franciscus Pycke Jury Award and the residency prize for Young Theatre Work 2004. Since then, her artistic life has been spread out between Ghent, Berlin and Brussels. And she shows no signs of slowing down. Warlop has toured Europe with ‘Myster Magnet’ (2012), ‘Dragging the Bone’ (2014), and ‘Fruits of Labour’ (2016).

Warlop’s work is characterised by a visual offensive: abstract and colourful decors, striking antagonists, absurd humour and sharp dramaturgy. With ‘Big Bears Cry Too’ (2018) she dived for the first time into children’s theatre. With a big bear, floating objects, bagfuls of excitement and colourful explosions, this production was a visual feast for young and old.

A resident at Vooruit until 2021, Warlop premiered ‘Ghost Writer and the Broken Hand Break’ in 2018 and is now working on her new production. Warlop will tour with the productions ‘Big Bears Cry Too’, ‘Ghost Writer and the Broken Hand Break’, ‘Fruits of Labor’ and ‘Mystery Magnet’.
