NO TIME TO WASTE

Our globalised and interconnected way of life spurred the spread of a global pandemic in 2020. The following crisis continues to have an enormous impact on our way of living, working and socialising. But the pandemic is part of a larger systemic problem: we inhabit the planet in a colonial way, following a strategy of expansion, exploitation and the depletion of resources. At VIERNULVIER we see this crisis as a moment to stop the clock, reflect and think together. To take action.

We do so with an ambitious Sustainable Action Plan, that we like to present you during the online programme NO TIME TO WASTE. We will guide you through all kinds of activities: talks, inspirational sessions for the cultural working field, film and an online cooking workshop with chef Sofie Dumont. In the meanwhile we’re installing a PPM clock on our rooftop. Sustainable inspiration for the public and professionals!

“With this plan, we are pursuing some radical ambitions. The radical nature of the attempt is very important here. Failure is allowed, but you have to go for it full throttle. With our actions we want to inspire and challenge people and organizations to cooperate, and to take even more initiatives in the field of sustainability.”

Marieke De Munck, curator Stadsatelier VIERNULVIER

TOWARD A SUSTAINABLE ACTION PLAN

We initiated the development of the sustainability policy at VIERNULVIER with a number of internal and external working groups. Various brainstorming sessions took place over the course of 2019, with employees putting their heads together with Eva Peeters from Greentrack Gent and artists Simon Allemeersch, Gosie Vervloessem and Benjamin Verdonck. A set of concrete measures arose from these sessions.

The various VIERNULVIER teams were tasked with integrating this action plan in their day-to-day tasks, using an internal measuring tool with yearly objectives. Those plans touch every segment of our organisation: the menu in our Café, the mobility of our staff and public, energy saving measures in the building,... To be continued in 2021!

DRIFT.
