Accessibility

Vooruit is a protected, hundred-year-old listed building with many floors, staircases and hidden corners. We try as much as possible to make our events and all the different spaces accessible for people with disabilities. If you have a disability, it's always good to let us know when you reserve your ticket. During events we will be happy to have a member of staff guide you to your place.

Building accessibility

The building is constantly being tinkered with to make it as accessible as possible for people with reduced mobility. With elevators, ramps, automatic doors and removable theater seats, we come a long way. We supplement that with assistance from a VIERNULVIER staff member at performances and events. This is why it is important that you give us a call through the ticket office when reserving your tickets.

Entrance hall & ticket desk

You will find a push button operated door at the entrance to the entrance hall, which takes you directly into the entrance hall. In the entrance hall there is also an elevator to reach the Ballroom and Dom Hall. The ticket counter has a lowered section, making it easier for people in wheelchairs to order tickets or ask for information.

Halls 

Each hall is accessible to persons with wheelchairs, accompanied by a VIERNULVIER staff member. Through our elevators, we can get everyone where they need to be. If we are aware of your disability, we can also hold an appropriate seat - usually in the front row - for you. There is also a toilet near each venue that is adapted for people in wheelchairs. 

VIERNULVIER Café & Terrace

In a wheelchair, it is easier to get to the VIERNULVIER Café via the automatic door in the entrance hall - see above. The Café's toilets are accessible via the elevator in the entrance hall. The Terrace is accessible via the Café. There is a seamless passage without stairs there, where on the left is an elevator that takes you to the Terrace level (+1).

Accessibility tour

The tours are (mostly) accessible to persons in wheelchairs. Through elevators and ramps almost all rooms are accessible.

Booking accessible tickets

Accessible tickets can be booked through our box office.

  • When making your reservation, please indicate if you have a disability, or if you use a regular or electric wheelchair.
  • Also indicate if you want to sit in your wheelchair during the performance. This way we can provide the ideal customized accompaniment.
  • Before the start and after a performance, a VIERNULVIER staff member will escort you to your seat.

European Disability Card

Do you have the European Disability Card (EDC)? Then your companion can attend the performance for free.

Relaxed Performances

A number of performances explicitly state 'relaxed performance'. With a relaxed performance we extend a warm welcome to everyone at VIERNULVIER, especially those who find it difficult to fit in with standard theater conventions: people with learning or movement disorders, autism, neurological conditions, people with Tourette's,...

  • During a relaxed performance, we do not completely extinguish the hall light.
  • Spectators are allowed to make sounds and movements during the performance.
  • Those who want can react to the performance in a spontaneous way.
  • Going to the toilet during the performance? You can leave the hall without any problem.
  • And if you don't make it to the theater in time, you can always enter the theater - latecomers are welcome.

Audiodescription & introductory feel tour

VIERNULVIER provides audio description and/or an introductory feel tour whenever and wherever possible. Audio description is a technique whereby a performance becomes accessible to persons with visual impairments. Headphones provide additional information about what is happening on stage, and what does not come across clearly from dialogues. Before the performance we provide a short introduction and the actors introduce themselves. That way you immediately know which voice belongs to which character.

If it makes sense for the experience of a performance and is feasible for the company, VIERNULVIER organizes a feeling tour on stage itself. You can touch the set and props at that time. That way you know what the audio description refers to during the performance.

Finding the right hall
The Café is on the ground floor, right next to the entrance hall. You can walk in and out through the Sint-Pietersnieuwstraat. From the Café you can go to the Terrace, which you can also reach via the stairs in the Sint-Pietersnieuwstraat - right next to the bicycle shed.
The Concert Hall is located at the back of The Vooruit, on the Scheldt River. You can walk along the water to the Concert Hall. From the entrance hall and Ticket Desk, turn right around the corner from Sint-Pietersnieuwstraat into Lammerstraat. Halfway down Lammerstraat, walk down the alley Parisberg to the entrance.
The Theater Hall is the room with red velvet chairs and the "Art ennobles" inscription above the stage. You reach the Theater Hall through the entrance hall on St. Peter's New Street. You walk in and continue straight ahead to the end of the corridor. On the right, you will see the entrance to the Theater Hall.
The Ballroom is located at the front of De Vooruit. Walk into the entrance hall, immediately turn right and go up the stairs there. On the second floor, walk through the Winter Garden to the Ballroom.
The Domzaal is the highest room in De Vooruit, right under the roof and at the front of the building. If you enter Vooruit through the entrance hall in Sint-Pietersnieuwstraat, turn immediately right and walk up the stairs to the very top - the third floor. There, take the first door on the right. At the end of the corridor, take the stairs to the very top. There you will find the Cathedral Hall.
The Minard is a theater located a little further down Walpoortstraat, next to Café Marimain. Coming out of the Vooruit entrance hall, turn right and walk straight ahead. After a hundred meters, you'll come across the theater on your right.
