RÓISE GOAN IS VIERNULVIER’S NEW ARTISTIC COORDINATOR

At the beginning of May, Róise Goan becomes the new artistic coordinator of arts center VIERNULVIER in Ghent. She succeeds Matthieu Goeury, who left VIERNULVIER after 11 years to become general and artistic director of Les Halles de Schaerbeek.

Róise Goan, born in Dublin, currently works as artistic director and co-ceo of Artsadmin in London, one of the UK's leading production houses for interdisciplinary art projects. She has worked as an artist,  producer and programmer with numerous arts organizations.

Róise  studied Drama and Theatre at Trinity College Dublin and graduated in 2004. In 2008 she was appointed director of the Dublin Fringe Festival, where she founded Fringe Lab. Highlights of her freelance career include artist development collaborations with Prime Cut in Belfast and two applications for European Capital of Culture, including Three Sisters 2020. In addition to her work in the performing arts, she has written for television, most notably for the TG4 series Aifric. She was appointed to the Arts Council of Ireland by Irish Culture Minister Catherine Martin in 2022.

''I am thrilled to take on the role of artistic coordinator at VIERNULVIER this spring. This Arts Institution has long been a home away from home for me. I look forward to being part of a team that I greatly respect and admire, within an organization whose values of partnership, collaboration and forward-looking research inspire me, as does the work of the extraordinary artists whose work I have seen on VIERNULVIER's stages." - Róise Goan

Róise Goan is no stranger to VIERNULVIER. During the 2017-2018 season, she worked there as a guest dramaturg. She is well acquainted with our Arts Institution, the city of Ghent and the Flemish arts field.

"What a pleasure that Róise is coming back to Ghent. She worked at VIERNULVIER in the 2017-2018 season as guest dramaturg. There we got to know her as a particularly warm and driven woman, who with great love for the cultural dynamics in the city, connects with the international arts field and with urgent social challenges."

- Franky Devos, general coordinator VIERNULVIER

As artistic coordinator, she coaches the team of programmers at VIERNULVIER. She helps draw up a program that keeps the balance between performing arts, music, nightlife, food and talks; between our own program and that of the many partners who help give substance to VIERNULVIER and between the work of local, Flemish and international artists.

Róise Goan becomes artistic coordinator at VIERNULVIER with a mandate of six years. This is renewable once.
