Gripping multimedia opera about exploitation and emancipation

LOD music theatre’s new opera ‘Woman at Point Zero’ is inspired by Egyptian feminist writer Nawal El Saadawi’s novel of the same name. The opera follows the story of two women who meet one day in prison: Fatma, a self-made feminist and activist, convicted of manslaughter, and Sama, the young, ambitious documentary filmmaker who seeks to tell Fatma’s story. Initially, there’s a lot of distrust between the two, until curiosity and solidarity prevail and an intense friendship develops. What does it mean to be a woman? How does it feel to be liberated? Can you be freer in prison than on the outside?

‘Woman at Point Zero’ is a universal story that tackles exploitation, sacrifice and the ceaseless quest for freedom.
